I actually saw this for the first time in an Intro to Film Genre Studies class, during the week we spent on horror. We watched this and Carrie back to back. I really like it, and consider it among the best of DePalma's flicks.

Great great movie it starts off as your standard murder mystery with an awesome cheesy keyboard soundtrack. Towards the end it dips into a surreal almost lynch like acid trip. Awesome mix of mystery and with the perfect touch of comedy and irony. 9/10
Was it me or was the doctor the creepiest damn character ever lol.

That doctor was Bill Finlay, a great unsung character actor of the 70s, who sort of is part of DePalma's repertoire company, popping up in his films now and then. His shot at stardom kind of fizzled - Phantom of the Paradise.
This movie got me hooked on horror/slasher, mainly because of Bernard Herrmann's theremin score. And DePalma was brilliant with his direction. The ending has one of cinema's great punchlines, too.

If this film wasn't released by The Criterion Collection, I wouldn't own it. It's not bad, but, like all of De Palma's films, it's a whole lotta pretty covering up a whole lotta nothing.
The success of every De Palma film depends on how well his homages work. This man is the most technically sound hack imaginable, ripping off bits and pieces from his favorite directors and, oftentimes, using them haphazardly throughout his film. SISTERS works exactly because his rampant homages - from Alfred Hitchcock to Michael Wadleigh - work.
