A caretaker at a summer camp is burned when a prank goes tragically wrong. After several years of intensive treatment at hospital, he is released back into society, albeit missing some social skills. What follows is a bloody killing spree with the caretaker making his way back to his old stomping ground to confront one of the youths that accidently burned him.

Pretty much sums up my thoughts too.
Slashers usually bore the shit out of me.
Can't think of a more formulaic seen-one-seen-'em-all genre.
And this one's about as generic as they get.

Movie gets a bad wrap for being slow, but anyone who says that has either A. Never seen it. B. Has only seen the cut VHS version. or C. Is a douche.
Movie is awesome, epic ending, great kills, and a young Jason Alexander stealing the show! Weinsteins making it happen in this one for sure.
Not only do I like this movie more than Friday the 13th, but I like Cropsy a billion times more than Jason Vorhees (or his gay ass Mother).
This movie rules, you're all crazy!

Sorry dude. If you want epic slashers...watch The Prowler. At least those kills looked real and created a sense of dread. The Burning was a poor man's version with extrememely fake looking death scenes. And, yes it is slow. The last 20 minutes are DULL! Oh, and Jason Alexander has always sucked. Sorry dude. And, please, don't give those douchebags any credit. And, the fact that you take Cropsy over Jason nullifies your opinion. Fact.
Crazy? Maybe.

Man you love The Prowler don't you? I agree that movie does rule, but The Burning is just pure fun. Keep in mind i'm not watching these kinds of movies holding out for any sort of thing that will change my life, or make me appreciate the art of film like you may be doing.
I want summer camp kids dead by a horrific killer. That is all.
And dude, did you just clown on George Costanza?
You're true colors are showing, nazi.

I watch these movies for similar reasons trust me. But, I found the overall product to be inferior comparing the two. To me The Burning was not as entertaining as The Prowler, not even close. I can still be pick and watch the films for the reasons you listed above.
Jason for the win!
Yes, I never liked him. I also hate Seinfeld. Bring on the hate. :p

He's done enough entertaining stuff that he doesn't qualify as a 'hack'.
But since there's plenty of better stuff that doesn't get a fair shake because of your 'rewatchability' nonsense, I wouldn't expect you to ever go back and give his films a fair shake.

The Burning is great, gory kills, come on the raft scene alone makes this a must see. Also likeable people makes this even better. I am so sick of people saying The Prowler is better, cause it is not.

There is nothing that great about The Prowler, it needs more kills. It gets slow with the investigation. Come on it is just a average film. Sure it has gore but lots of films do.

Seems like there's a very big debate on which is better: The Burning or The Prowler. Personally, I like The Prowler a whole lot better. The Burning just took way too long getting into the killings and even when they did, the kills weren't really THAT great. The Prowler just kept you interested way longer than The Burning did.

The Burning had one of the greatest scenes in slash history. The Raft scene. The characters are way more likeable here then The Prowler as well. There is something going on between kills at least. The Burning has a better killer as well.

So, you come on here and call the fucking Prowler a rip-off of De Palma but you can't fucking see where The Burning is a ripoff of F13th? Really? Yes, he tried to do some new things with the kills, but all they did was substitute Jason with Cropsy, water with burns and a small summer camp with well a small better run summer camp. It's a fucking rehash as well. Anyway. The murders in the Prowler are at least realistic. Say what you want, but the raft scene is probably one of the most overrated scenes in a horror film EVER.
