I don't think there's anyone who doesn't know what a "slasher film" is, but just in case...

http://en.wikipedia.org/wiki/Slasher_film

Let's try to keep discussion to "The Golden Age" of the genre ('78-'90?) or earlier.

Can't say I'm really a huge fan of slasher films, I get bored of them rather easily... Sad

Me too, generally speaking.

I do like revisiting some of them every now & then or catching an old one I haven't seen, just to say I have, but once a guy gets hooked on giallo it's kind of hard to go back to the lowest-common-denominator retardedness of the slashers.

There of course are a few that are better than the others...

I find that whenever I decide to get stuck in to a slasher binge I'm bored of them after 2 films, hell sometimes even one film. Whereas with various other genres I can go through up to 5 films before I even consider watching something different.

I hear that.

Stupidity is better in small doses.

Dead teenagers in the same old story with the same old plot devices gets real old, real quick.

Every once in a while I get in a weird mood and watch a bunch of these over a few days. Some of my favorites to revisit during these marathons:
The Prowler
April Fool's Day
My Bloody Valentine
Friday the 13th Pt. 3&4
Black Christmas

Black Christmas is one that I'll always enjoy. I haven't actually seen The Prowler.

As for Friday the 13th I always considered the 3rd the weakest out of the first 4.

COMMUNION, ALICE SWEET ALICE has to be an exception, watched it the other night and i thought it was amazing, excellent script with a really strong catholic hold...fantastic

I like slasher films but I don't watch them too often.

My top favorites are probably Halloween & Black Christmas.

I agree with the person above about Alice, Sweet Alice. I really liked that one.

Get on the Prowler it's one of the better ones.

In the first 4 I always had the first as the weakest.

The first may technically be one of the best, but without the charm of the villain, I just cannot bring myself to enjoy it as much. 2-4 are my absolute favorite F13th movies.

Agree with all of the above.

3 pretty much sucks in that it's the most "formula" of the entire series.

4 is too, but competent direction gives it a boost.

4 used to be my favorite, but I like 6 the best these days.

I will always have a special place for the Slasher genre. Manaic,Tourist Trap,The House on Sorority Row,My Bloody Valentine etc..are among my favorites.

The Friday the 13ths did get considerably worse as they went on (with the exception of 4 and 6) but really there's only so many times one can tell the story and it seem fresh.

even now im not interested to see this kind of genre, but slasher films introduce me to a world of great horror. without this kind of films, i might not aware to see a better kind of horror (the i ask to myself: what is better kind of horror?).

my all time fave maybe texas chainsaw massacre. but i really want to see tourist trap.

Watched MADMAN last night.

One of the slasher flicks I managed to miss in my misspent gore-hound youth.

Fucking sucked ass.
